Hi! I'm Alan, and I'm bringing my lifelong passion for mathematics to Skillswap NZ as a dedicated tutor. With a background as a qualified engineer, I've spent my career applying mathematical principles in real-world scenarios. More recently, I've channeled this experience into tutoring students, particularly those preparing for NCEA Levels 1 through 3. While I'm not a registered teacher, I've found immense satisfaction and seen very positive results from my one-on-one tutoring sessions, especially as students approach their exams.

My goal is to make maths feel logical, accessible, and even enjoyable. My teaching style is clear, patient, and highly responsive, focusing on helping students truly understand concepts rather than just memorizing procedures. I prefer to work at each student's individual pace, meticulously filling in any knowledge gaps and building their confidence step by step.

My Target Audience

I'm especially keen to work with:

  • High school students across NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3.

  • Year 9–10 students looking to build a strong foundation for senior maths.

  • Adults returning to study or retraining who need to brush up on their mathematical skills.

Terms and Conditions

General Terms and Conditions for Skill Bookings

Please read these terms carefully before booking any skill sessions.

  • 1. Platform Booking Fees: The fees paid to the platform at the time of booking are non-refundable under most circumstances. Refunds will only be issued if there is an issue directly attributable to the platform, such such as booking errors or technical faults preventing the booking from being processed correctly.

  • 2. Session Fees: The fees charged for the actual skill session are payable directly to the skill provider and are separate from the platform's booking charges. The platform is not responsible for collecting or refunding session fees unless explicitly stated otherwise by the provider.

  • 3. Provider-Specific Terms: Customers are required to review and meet any special terms or requirements set by individual skill providers. These may include prerequisites, materials needed, or specific conduct rules for the session. Failure to meet these terms may result in the provider refusing service, with no refund of platform booking fees.

  • 4. Post-Booking Communication: Customers are responsible for communicating directly with the skill, service, or teacher provider after a booking has been made. This communication is crucial to ensure the provider has all necessary information to perform the job correctly, confirm details, and arrange follow-up aspects (e.g., sharing Zoom meeting links, physical address, preparation instructions).

  • 5. Issues with Skill Providers: In the event of any issues or disputes concerning the skill provider or the session itself (e.g., quality of service, cancellations by provider, rescheduling), customers should contact the skill provider directly first to resolve the matter. The platform acts as a facilitator for booking and is not responsible for the direct provision of the skill service.

By proceeding with a booking, you acknowledge and agree to these terms and conditions.
